A Journey of Discovery: Sreeni Tata’s Lightbulb Moment with IBM Planning Analytics (TM1)
At Cubewise, our passion for IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) runs deep. We often reflect on the ‘lightbulb moments’ that sparked our dedication to this powerful tool. Today, we share the inspiring story of Sreenivas Tata, the General Manager for the southern region in Australia.
A Career Rooted in Excellence
Sreeni‘s journey began with industrial engineering and management accounting. At Bridgestone Firestone, he discovered IBM Planning Analytics (TM1), marking the beginning of his fascination with the tool’s capabilities.
Unleashing the Power of IBM Planning Analytics (TM1)
Seeing its potential, Sreeni moved to Australia and at Affinity Health, expanded IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) usage from 10 to 400 users in two years, showcasing its transformative power and his leadership.
A Belief in IBM Planning Analytics (TM1)’s Potential
Sreeni’s enthusiasm for IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) and planning analytics is palpable. He firmly believes in the tool’s ability to enhance user performance, particularly when engaging with clients. His optimism about IBM Planning Analytics (TM1)’s future is grounded in its unique algorithm designed to handle sparsity, a feature that sets it apart from other tools.
A Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, Sreeni envisions a bright future for IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) and planning analytics. He is confident that as long as the tool’s modeling engine and sparsity capabilities are maintained, IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) will continue to thrive and make a lasting impact in the business world.

I’m Sreeni Tata, general manager for southern region in Australia, based in Melbourne. My background is I’m basically an engineer, industrial engineering. I worked in several process based companies before, before coming here, and management roles and everything else before migrating to New Zealand. So that’s where I started. Degree which is basically accounting based, specially focused on management accounting. So the first job in Bridgestone Firestone, the first 2nd day of the work, I was given a manual of TM1 at that stage and asked to sort of decode it and start using it for the company.
So given that my process engineering background and stuff like that, so I could easily take it up, build up a story, and the first time I realised how awesome this tool was and how intelligent the person who could have invented this tool was, because Excel modelling, I was a fan of Excel modelling and then the automatic consolidation that was happening and the issues and the integration with Excel and everything else, that was wow, that was my, I would say the first light bulb moment and this is a great product and one day I’ll be cherished to meet this person, right?
And yeah, so that was how my journey started. I worked for Bridgestone for about a year, migrated Australia and worked in a company called Affinity Health or Main health hospitals group, where they had ten users of TM1, soon could deliver value because I knew what the product capabilities were and soon expanded to 30 40 users. From then on. After that we provide solutions where it soon expanded to within two years, expanded to 400 users across the company.
So that was a major achievement towards at that point in time, I met Ben Heinl, who was a consultant at that time. He came in and showed me the power of the rules engine, which is I was basically not that strong. In that case, he showed me power, how the whole rule seems to work and that’s when the second light bulb moment, I would say the modelling power really came through and it’s ever since been the journey.
So that what TM1 really does for you is makes you look good in front of the clients and just because the tool is so awesome, you’re looked upon like a champion and stuff like that. I think that set my career even from the day one when Bridgestone Firestone has looked at it. I want to be doing this for my life and have been doing it for my life now.
So I’ve joined Cubewise in the future. So that’s basically what does TM1 or planning analytics have in the future. I think as long as that modelling engine concept is not compromised on, the sparsity is not compromised on. I wouldn’t see a real tool to actually come to unravel that. And Manny to his brilliance, the algorithm is written to a hand in sparsity. I don’t think anyone else has really attempted that.
And that sort of brainwave that he had, I think that is a product I would say will probably live beyond our lives. Yeah. So that’s. That’s what I would say the future of TM1 is and Planning Analytics is. Thank you. In the universe of TM1, the light bulb moment is described as the phenomena of clarity that a business developer or manager has once encountering. The advantages of TM1, we asked cubewisers to share their lightbulb moments.
This is what they had to say.
