Accurate predictions means we have the right products available at the right time, we can lower the inventory or negotiate better terms, less stock means less discounts, better price decisions, having the appropriate staffing when we need it where we need it, streamlining the production and distribution process to cater for the forecasted quantities.
Data Science and statistical forecasting
We ventured into the realm of data-science, and the type of advanced modelling these tools are capable off, surpass what we can handle as a human. Having an accurate calculation model, based on a set of drivers, impacting each other and coming up with a suggested outcome, has an immediate return on investment.
TM1, based on an underlying data-science model, brings harmony to the word. Drivers will be visualized in TM1, and choices can be made to enter the drivers manually by the users, or use a statistical forecast for them, or a combination of both. The power of the automation will remove the burden of manual input and the limitation of humans being able to handle large data volumes while understanding the interaction between drivers.
In this type of setup we tend to see a cycle of progressive insight. Realizing the correlation between certain drivers and the results we are perceiving, can show us that maybe certain drivers aren’t as important as we thought they were, or they have changed over time. The data-science based modeling is an iterative process, where the actual outcomes will feed back into the calculation model, to refine it, change the weighting of drivers, and increase the accuracy over time and in view of an ever changing world.
