IBM Planning Analytics Workspace just got a major update. New AI features, improved automation and better reporting tools.Let’s dive into what’s new in PAW 2.0.101, also known as 2.1.8, released on February 18, 2025. What’s new in booked and reporting. Have you ever looked at a number in Planning Analytics and wondered where did that come from? The Explain Cell feature will help you get the answer with its AI capability which will break down the value in natural language.

Whether it’s a consolidation, a calculation or key business driver. You’ll need the Planning Analytics AI assistance Add on to use this feature, which is not included in the standard PAW licence. Glancing at a charts often raises the question, what’s fueling these trends? The Charts Insights feature offers instant AI powered explanations to satisfy your curiosity. Simply choose the Chart, open the AI assistant and enter the command ‘Show Insights’. The AI will highlight key trends, patterns and anomalies, assisting you in quickly interpreting the data.

You can also access the same analysis by using the Charts Insights button. Similar insights can be gained from an Exploration View simply by asking the AI assistant to ‘Analyze’. This command will generate an impact analysis of relationships and key drivers, helping you to identify what’s impacting your results. This feature requires the Planning Analytics AI assistance Add on. Setting up Action Buttons are now easier. All settings for running processes, AI jobs and navigation are under the Configure tab. You won’t have to jump between multiple tabs anymore, whereas the General tab contains options to customise the Appearance and Layout.

Action Buttons supports more dynamic workflows. For example, you can configure a process to run and navigate immediately after the process completes. You can also initiate an AI job when a process is executed or run an AI job and then navigate. When running a process through an Action Button, you can set up custom status messages that activate upon successful completion, errors or warnings. By providing better messages, this will significantly enhance user feedback. Action Buttons can pass cell values as parameters to processes, making automation even more dynamic. This ensures processes always runs with the most up to date data from your cube.

You can customise the prompt, title and description for Action Buttons that require parameter inputs. This makes it clearer for users when running a process, assign background colours to rule derived and read only cells or customise fonts colours for sandbox values to enhance data visualisation.

The database tree organises views and sets into public and private folders. This is available in Books and the Modelling workbench for better content management. Tailor search behaviour within consolidated members using two options. Search with Descendants includes all sub members. Search Current Set Only limits the search to displayed members. The Expand and Collapse Levels button lets you quickly expand or collapse consolidations up to a selected level in both available Members and Current sets panels.

Export Cube data as a CSV file directly to your local Downloads folder. Additionally, Dimensions and Hierarchies can be exported, providing a comprehensive dataset. Filter rows or columns based on text values using conditions like contains, starts with or ends with. This makes analysing text data much easier. Allow or prevent direct data entry and data spreading into consolidates itself using the allow consolidation type in property, which can be set for each exploration.

MDX queries can now include parameters in the MDX editor, allowing for more dynamic and flexible data retrieval. What’s new in Plans and Applications. Applications and plans have summary pages that provide high level overview of sections and tasks, making navigation easier. Choose any colour for tags in applications and plans, helping with visual organisation. What’s new in Modelling. Use the copy menu in the database tree to correctly obtain the object’s unique name, member or member as a rule reference. This makes it easy to apply the correct context to MDX expressions, rules and processes.

Create pick lists directly in the cube viewer, making data entry faster and more consistent. When a process fails, the server log provides a direct link to the error log, making troubleshooting much faster. When using the Forecast feature, you can allow users to override the baseline forecasts. This makes baseline forecasts more flexible for users and simplifies maintenance for baseline forecast creators who no longer need to create and maintain multiple forecasts with similar but varying scope.

Administrators can adjust logging levels directly in Planning Analytics Administration, providing more control over debugging and performance monitoring. What’s new in Administration. Administrators can find this icon in Planning Analytics Administration Local to identify the Authentication database, preventing accidental stops or modifications that could hinder user login to Planning Analytics Workspace.

Known Issues. There is one known issue with PAW version 2.0.101. On Microsoft Azure, new users added through Planning Analytics Administration may not receive an invitation email, however they can still log on and access Planning Analytics.

That’s what’s new in PAW 2.0.101. I hope you found this useful. Hit the like and subscribe for more Planning Analytics updates.
